Montes de Oro

acrylic/oil on canvas

2017-18/work in progress

This is a project I have been working on for some time now, which is still in process.  In its current state it measures approximately 4ft. by 20ft., comprised of ten panels of stretched canvas.  More panels may be added as it progresses.

My work swings like a pendulum from the microcosm to the macrocosm in search of integrity of representation. How much or how little information is necessary to properly embody an idea or truly represent a person, a place, or a feeling? The visually smaller end of this pendulum-arc is comprised of miniature landscapes that I painted on polaroid photos.  This current project now comprises the larger end of the arc.  This painting is a continuation of the contemplation on identity and belonging which has lain at the heart of my work for some time now, and it depicts my childhood home.
